Paula Patton to Star in and Produce Josephine Baker Biopic

Paula Patton to Star in Josephine Baker Drama
Paula Patton ("Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol", "Traffik") is set to star in and produce an adaptation of Sherry Jones' biographical novel "Josephine Baker's Last Dance". The novel was published in December 2018 by Simon & Schuster imprint Gallery Books.

Baker was a Jazz Age icon who rose from the slums of St. Louis to become the toast of Europe, gaining the attention of Ernest Hemingway, Picasso and others as a chanteuse and dancer willing to push many envelopes.

During the war, her celebrity allowed her to move easily through high-class social circles, which enabled her to work as an undercover agent for the French resistance during World War II, gathering information from Axis officials.

Later in life she became a civil rights activist, using her fame to work with the NAACP. She was the only woman to stand alongside Martin Luther King Jr. and speak at the 1963 March on Washington.

Here's what Patton had to say about the project:
"Josephine Baker had an incredible life and was a remarkable woman. It's been a childhood dream of mine to play such an inspirational person and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to tell her story."
