Elizabeth Banks to Direct, Star in INVISIBLE WOMAN for Universal

Elizabeth Banks to Direct, Star in INVISIBLE WOMAN for Universal
Elizabeth Banks is set to direct and star in "Invisible Woman" for Universal, based on her own original pitch. The latest draft of the script has been written by Erin Cressida Wilson ("The Girl on the Train") and it will be very different from the studio's upcoming "The Invisible Man" starring Elisabeth Moss, which is due for release in February.

The film's plot is unknown at this point, but it's clear that Universal is attempting to shake up their roster of classic monster flicks with a modern approach following the poor performance of the 2017 "The Mummy" reboot that starred Tom Cruise.

As part of the new filmmaker-driven approach, it was also announced that "Rocketman" helmer Dexter Fletcher will direct the Dracula spinoff "Renfield" which focuses on the legendary vampire's henchman. Meanwhile, Paul Feig ("Bridesmaids", "Ghostbusters") will write and direct "Dark Army", a monster movie based on the filmmaker's own original idea.

Banks will also produce along with her husband Max Handelman via Brownstone Productions. She made her directorial debut with "Pitch Perfect 2", and is coming off of Sony's reboot of "Charlie's Angels", which performed poorly at the box-office.
