"Indiana Jones" and "Star Wars" star Harrison Ford is attached to star in a series adaptation of "The Staircase" from Annapurna Television. The adaptation will be written and executive produced by Antonio Campos ("The Sinner").

The show will be a retelling of the 2004 docuseries directed by Jean-Xavier de Lestrade that focused on the trial of American novelist Michael Peterson, who was accused of murdering his wife Kathleen in 2001. He claimed his wife fell down a staircase in her home, but police and prosecutors suspected he bludgeoned her and staged the scene to look like an accident.

The original series aired on Sundance in the U.S., and a two-hour sequel was released in 2013. In 2018 Lestrade added three new episodes featuring new information. Netflix released the complete 13-episode series in June 2018.

This will be Ford's first TV role in more than 25 years. His last appearance on a scripted series was in 1993 as the adult version of the title character on "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles". Before that he appeared on shows like "The Virginian", "Mod Squad and "Gunsmoke".
