James Gandolfini's Son Cast as Young Tony Soprano in Prequel Movie

James Gandolfini's son cast as young Tony Soprano in prequel movie
Michael Gandolfini, son of late actor James Gandolfini, has been set to star as the young version of iconic New Jersey organized crime family boss Tony Soprano in an upcoming prequel movie from "The Sopranos" creator David Chase.

The film, titled "The Many Saints of Newark", will be directed by Alan Taylor ("The Sopranos", "Game of Thrones") from a screenplay penned by Chase. The story will focus on Dickie Moltisanti, father to Christopher Moltisanti who was played by Michael Imperioli on the show. The cast will also include Vera Farmiga, Alessandro Nivola and Jon Bernthal.

Michael Gandolfini said in a statement:
"It’s a profound honor to continue my dad’s legacy while stepping into the shoes of a young Tony Soprano. I’m thrilled that I’m going to have the opportunity to work with David Chase and the incredible company of talent he has assembled for The Many Saints of Newark.".

Young Gandolfini can also be seen in David Simon's HBO series "The Deuce", and he had a minor role in 2018's "Ocean's 8".
