The winners of the 2018 Independent Spirit Awards have been announced. The big winner was Jordan Peele's "Get Out", which won Best Film and Director. Since the Spirit Awards have correctly predicted the Oscar Best Picture winner in the last two years, it's raised some hopes that this year Peele's directorial debut could pull off a surprise.
There were no surprises in the acting categories, however. Frances McDormand, Gary Oldman, Sam Rockwell and Allison Janey, all Oscar favorites, walked away with prizes. "The Big Sick" and "Lady Bird" won screenplay awards.
This year's Independent Spirit Awards ceremony was hosted by Nick Kroll and John Mulaney.
