"Deadpool" held his own at the top of the box-office for a third consecutive week while big-budget epic "Gods of Egypt" flopped in second place. The other new wide releases "Eddie the Eagle" and "Triple 9" also had a hard time in the Top 10.
Find out more about the weekend box office after the jump.
"Deadpool" grossed $31.5 million over the weekend and the surprise hit's domestic cume is now $285.6 million with an additional $324 million grossed overseas.
In second place, Lionsgate's "Gods of Egypt" struggled to bring in $14 million which is pretty much as expected and also a complete disaster for the $140 million epic. Bad reviews from both critics and moviegoers guarantee that this one won't pick up in the following weeks.
"Kung Fu Panda 3" placed third with a $9 million weekend which brings the animated feature to a domestic total of $128.4 million. The faith-based period drama "Risen" dropped 40.7% to #4 in its second weekend and grossed $7 million for a $22.7 million total.
Rounding up the Top 5 is the new release "Eddie the Eagle". The semi-fictional biopic opened with $6.3 million which is a modest result, but the film's production costs are estimated at $23 million, so it should at least be able to recuperate that amount. Similarly, the other new wide release of the week, the crime thriller "Triple 9" placed sixth with $6.1 million versus a $20 million budget, despite a star-studded cast.
This was also the first weekend after 11 weeks that "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" ended up outside the Top 10. The film has now reached $926 million domestically.
New Wide Releases: "Gods of Egypt", "Triple 9", "Eddie the Eagle".
Biggest Drop : "Deadpool" (-44%)
Smallest Drop : "The Revenant" (-1.7%)
