"Kung Fu Panda 3" knocked "The Revenant" off its throne, although the Leonardo DiCaprio starrer is still holding strong, while the other new wide releases "The Finest Hours" and "Fifty Shades of Black" failed to impress.

Find out more about the weekend box office after the jump.

"Kung Fu Panda 3" scored a $41 million debut this weekend, becoming the largest January animated opening of all-time. The previous record was held by "The Nut Job" with $19.4 million. It's also the second best January opening (including live-action features), behind "Ride Along" ($41.5 million). Franchise-wise, it's the worst opening in the series. The original "Kung Fu Panda" opened with $60.2 million and second film grossed $47.6 million in its opening weekend.

In second place, "The Revenant" grossed another $12.4 million and only registered a 22% drop. In third place, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" demonstrated equal strength with a $10.7 million weekend gross and a 23% drop from last week. The worldwide gross for the eight installment in the "Star Wars" saga is now at $1.983 billion.

The fact-based drama "The Finest Hours" only managed a fourth-place debut with $10.3 million versus a $70-80 million budget, a weak result for the Disney flick.

The week's other new wide release, "Fifty Shades of Black" scored a very modest $6.1 million debut. But, since the film's budget is estimated at $5 million, it's not a total disaster.

The Natalie Portman Western "Jane Got a Gun" registered a weak $803,000 from 1,210 theaters, which is Portman's worst box-office result in her entire career.

New Wide Releases: "Kung Fu Panda 3", "The Finest Hours" ,"Fifty Shades of Black".
