Abbey Lee Joins THE DARK TOWER as Female Lead

Abbey Lee joins Stephen King adaptation The Dark Tower
The Stephen King adaptation of "The Dark Tower" is finally moving forward after years of failed attempts to bring the project in front of the cameras. Sony and Media Rights Capital are developing the film with Nikolaj Arcel ("A Royal Affair") directing and the cast already features Idris Elba as gunslinger Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey as the evil Man in Black.

The most recent casting announcement arrived today. Model-turned-actress Abbey Lee ("Mad Max: Fury Road") has joined the cast as Tirana, the film's female lead. The script written by Arcel, Akiva Goldsman and Anders Thomas Jensen is based on King's "The Gunslinger", the first novel in the series.

Ron Howard will produce alongside Brian Grazer and Erica Huggins. Media Rights Capital is also developing a TV series to go along with the film franchise. Production on the movie will begin sometime this spring.

"The Dark Tower" is set to open in theaters on January 13, 2017.
