Paramount has offered some new updates regarding the future of the "Transformers" franchise. The first order of business is when the next three installments will be released. The studio announced the following timeline:
- "Transformers 5" - June 23, 2017
- "Transformers 6" - June 8, 2018
- "Transformers 7" - June 28, 2019
The second of these three films will actually be a "Transformers" spinoff movie which will focus on the lovable Autobot Bumblebee. Furthermore, it seems that the spinoff is intended to be a "lower cost" movie, according to Paramount CEO Brad Grey:
"There are characters in the Transformers universe that can be and should be made into their own movies. We will make the first movie with Michael and go right into a Bumblebee movie, which will be at a lower cost."As confirmed above, Michael Bay is set to direct the fifth film and Mark Wahlberg will also be back as human protagonist Cade Yeager, but there is no word on who will helm the other two. It's possible that the spinoff installments will be handled by new directors, but Bay will probably be back for the 2019 movie.
