Without any serious competition at the box-office, "Jumanji" returned to the top of the charts over the Super Bowl weekend. The only new wide release, the horror film "Winchester" performed slightly better than expected.
Find out more about the weekend box office after the jump.
It was a slow weekend overall, but "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" still managed to climb back to the top, grossing $11 million. The film's domestic cume has reached $352.6 million while internationally it has topped $500 million.
In second place we have last week's new arrival, "Maze Runner: The Death Cure", which has dropped almost 60%, grossing $10.2 million over the weekend. While the domestic tally is at a low $39.7 million after 10 days in theaters, overseas the threequel has grossed $142.8 million. The film cost $62 million to produce.
The week's only new wide release, the fact-based (sort of) horror film "Winchester" found a decent audience, grossing $9.2 million from 2,480 locations, as per expectations and very slightly above. The film had a reported budget of $3.5 million, so it's doing fine. The critical reception was probably more horrific than the film itself (10% on Rotten Tomatoes and 31 on Rotten Tomatoes), while CinemaScore reported a "B-" grade from opening night polls, which isn't so terrible, all things considered.
At #4, the musical drama "The Greatest Showman" is still going strong with $7.8 million over the weekend after a soft 18% drop, which brings its domestic tally to $137.4 million. So far, it's Hugh Jackman's second highest-grossing film outside the "X-Men" franchise, behind "Les Miserables" which earned $148.8 million in 2012. Overseas the film has grossed $153 million.
The Top 5 is rounded up by the western "Hostiles" with $5.5 million. The film has grossed $21.2 million domestically against a $50 million budget.
In other box-office news, the Oscar-nominated biopic "Darkest Hour" managed to cross the $100 million mark worldwide. The film grossed $48.8 million in the U.S. and $66 million overseas.
