Disney reigns supreme at the box-office for a second consecutive year as their latest release, "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" held its ground through the New Year's weekend. The box-office also registered a significant boost in the last days of 2017, with almost all films in the charts holding over the same positions. Meanwhile Ridley Scott's "All the Money in the World" expanded nationwide.

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is still the top movie at the box-office, grossing $52.6 million over the New Year weekend and becoming the highest grossing release of 2017 with $533 million, topping "Beauty and the Beast" which grossed $504 million. The film also passed the $1 billion milestone worldwide, joining "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Fate of the Furious" as the only movies to claim this achievement in 2017.
Disney also secured two other spots among 2017's highest grossing films with Marvel flicks "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" at #4 with $389.8 million and "Thor: Ragnarok" at #7 with $311.4 million. So Disney owns almost half of 2017's highest grossing releases. "Spider-Man: Homecoming" is technically a Marvel flick, but owned by Sony, who kept all of the profit, and it landed at #5 with $334.2 million.
Warner Bros. is no slouch either, with three films in the 2017 charts: "Wonder Woman" at #3 with $412.5 million, "It" at #6 with $327.4 million, and "Justice League" barely making it in the Top 10 at #10 with $225.8 million.
Other top earners of the past year are Universal's "Despicable Me 3" at #8 with $264.6 million and Fox's "Logan" at #9 with $226.2 million.
And now back to the weekend charts. In second place we have "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" with $50.3 million, a solid increase from its $36.4 million opening weekend. The film has grossed $185.7 million domestically and another $153 million overseas, versus a $90 million budget.
In third place, the sequel "Pitch Perfect 3" dropped just 15.5% and grossed $16.8 million over the weekend, adding up to a domestic tally of $67.4 million. Still, the film is lagging way behind its predecessor, as "Pitch Perfect 2" grossed $184.2 million in 2015, but slightly better than the original which earned $65 million in its entire theatrical run in 2012.
Hugh Jackman's musical "The Greatest Showman" saw an awesome 77% increase over the weekend, grossing $15.5 million, which brings its domestic total to $54.2 million. The film opened with a soft $19 million in its first six day, but has seen a constant growth since Christmas and is currently impressing everyone with its record-breaking weekend hold.
The Top 5 is rounded up by Fox's animated feature "Ferdinand" with $11.4 million. The film was also a slow starter, with a $13 million opening weekend, but its earnings over the New Year weekend were boosted by about 56%. This brings its domestic total to $53.5 million, which still isn't much compared to its $111 million production budget. The film only added $71.9 million from overseas markets.
Ridley Scott's true story drama "All the Money in the World", which made headlines when it replaced Kevin Spacey with Christopher Plummer after the former was accused of several accounts of sexual misconduct, expanded nationwide over the weekend. The film placed seventh with $5.6 million and has grossed $14.6 million, so far.
