Emmy-winning "Ozark" and "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" star Julia Garner, is set to star in and executive produce an upcoming untitled Netflix limited series that will focus on the collapse of cryptocurrency exchange FTX and the relationship between FTX co-founder and chief executive Sam Bankman-Fried and his girlfriend and business associate Caroline Ellison, who will be played by Garner.
Based on a 2022 New York Magazine article, the show has been described as a Gen Z Bonnie and Clyde type of wild romance that will center on two hyper smart, ambitious young idealists who tried to remake the global financial system in the blink of an eye – and then seduced, coaxed, and teased each other into stealing $36 billion.
Similar to her role in "Inventing Anna", Garner will be playing a young woman convicted and sent to prison for fraud. After she testified for the prosecution in the trial against crypto king Bankman-Fried, Collins was sentenced to two years. She is currently serving a reduced sentence and is set to be released this summer.
The project hails from Barack and Michelle Obama's Netflix-based Higher Ground, and is written by Oscar winner Graham Moore ("The Imitation Game", "The Outfit"). "The Spectacular Now" and "Smashed" helmer James Ponsoldt is set to direct, while "The Leftovers" and "The Good Wife" producer Jackie Hoyt will serve as showrunner and executive producer.
Garner can next be seen in Marvel's Fantastic Four movie as The Silver Surfer, and in "Barbarian" filmmaker Zac Cregger's highly anticipated new horror film "Weapons".
