Gerwig will write and direct. The adaptatation is based on the sixth novel of the series "The Magician's Nephew" and the story centers on Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer, who discover the magical world of Narnia through Digory's uncle's magic.
Mackey will star as the story's antagonist, the White Witch, who was played by Tilda Swinton in the 2005 film "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe". Meryl Streep is in talks to play Aslan, the talking lion who in the books is the King of Kings and serves as Narnia's guardian and guide for the human children who enter its world. Daniel Craig will star as Digory Kirke's uncle.
The film will be released worldwide on Thanksgiving Day 2026 for a two-week IMAX theatrical run before the film's streaming debut on Netflix Christmas 2026. Production is expected to take place next year.
Mackey is also set to star in J.J. Abrams' which also stars Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega. She also nabbed roles in Julia Ducournau's "Alpha", and James L. Brooks' comedy "Ella McCay" that will open theatrically December 12th.
