For a fifth consecutive weekend, the overall box-office crossed the $100 million mark, and a big part of that success is due to Marvel's new film "Thunderbolts*", which opened with solid numbers, yet still far from the studio's glory days. Meanwhile, "Sinners" is still doing impressively well in its third weekend.

"Thunderbolts*" opened with $74.3 million from 4,330 theaters. That's lower than the $88.5 million debut of "Captain America: Brave New World" and far from the stellar opening weekends Marvel used to deliver, but with solid reviews (87% on Rotten Tomatoes) and a positive audience reception ("A-" CinemaScore), the film could hold out a lot better than "Brave New World". The film also raked in another $86.1 million overseas for a worldwide total of $160.4 million. The production budget is estimated at around $180 million.
Ryan Coogler's horror film "Sinners" dropped just 27.6% in its third weekend, grossing another $33.1 million for a domestic total of $179.8 million. Internationally it adds another $57.5 million for a global tally of $237.3 million.
"A Minecraft Movie" is still doing well, too, grossing $13.7 million over its fifth weekend, with a soft 39% decline. The film has now grossed $398.2 million in North America and another $476.4 million from foreign markets. That adds up to $874.6 million worldwide.
The action thriller sequel "The Accountant 2" finished its sophomore weekend in fourth place with $9.4 million, dropping a steep 61%. The film's domestic tally has reached $41.1 million, and it has also raked in $25.2 million internationally, but with a production budget of around $80 million, the film is far from profitable.
The Top 5 is rounded out by the horror video game adaptation "Until Dawn", holding its position from last week's debut. The film scored $3.8 million in its second weekend, down 52.2% from its previous frame, which brings its domestic cume to $14.3 million. With another $20.4 million from foreign markets, the film's worldwide total has reached a modest $34.7 million.
In other news, the Indian crime thriller "HIT: The 3rd Case" opened in ninth place with $955,000 from 590 theaters, while the Nicolas Cage thriller "The Surfer" opened with $698,114 from 884 screens.
