Marvel's "Thunderbolts*" topped the box office charts in its sophomore weekend, although it did help that there were no new major films to compete against it. The only new semi-wide releases "Clown in a Cornfield", "Shadow Force" and "Fight or Flight" didn't make much of an impression.

"Thunderbolts*" dominated its second weekend with $32.9 million, a 56.4% decline, which is pretty much on par with Marvel's latest releases. So far, the film is among the lowest-grossing Marvel films, but good word-of-mouth could help it hold better than "Captain America: Brave New World", despite having a slower start than that film's. After 10 days in theaters, "Thunderbolts*" has grossed $127.7 million domestically and another $143.5 million overseas for a worldwide total of $271.3 million.
"Sinners" is holding in second place with $22.1 million, dropping just 33.2% in its fourth weekend. The film added another 155 screens, which no doubt helped. So far, the film is the 17th highest grossing R-rated movie ever relased with a $215.4 million domestic total. Internationally it adds another $69.3 million for a global total of $284.7 million.
Another holdover is "A Minecraft Movie" in third place with $7.6 million, a 44.2% decline from last week. After six weeks in theaters, the film has grossed a total of $408.6 million in North America and $501 million from foreign markets. That adds up to $909.6 million worldwide.
"The Accountant 2" also managed to stay put in fourth place with $6.7 million. The film's decline has softened, losing only 29.3% from the previous frame. Domestically it has raked in $51.5 million after three weeks, and it also grossed another $31.5 million internationally, but the $83 million global total is still not enough for the $80 million production to turn a profit.
And now for the new releases. The slasher horror comedy "Clown in a Cornfield" opened in fifth place with $3.6 million from 2,277 theaters, which might not sound like much, but it's IFC's best opening weekend ever, surpassing "Late Night with the Devil" ($2.8 million) and "In a Violent Nature" ($2.1 million). "Clown in a Cornfield" is the studio's sixth film released in over 1,000 theaters. It enjoyed solid reviews from critics (74% on Rotten Tomatoes), but the audience reception isn't great ("C+" CinemaScore).
On the other hand, the action thriller "Shadow Force" (29% Rotten Tomatoes, "B" CinemaScore) starring Kerry Washington and Omar Sy, tanked in sixth place with a $2.1 million debut from 2,170 theaters, resulting in an embarrasing $991 per-theater average. The film cost $40 million to produce.
Same goes for the action comedy "Fight or Flight" (76% on Rotten Tomatoes; "C+" CinemaScore) which opened with only $2 million from 2,153 theaters ($929 per-theater average).
