Ben Affleck To Direct & Star In Netflix Thriller ANIMALS With Gillian Anderson Set To Co-Star

Ben Affleck To Direct And Star Thriller Animals

Ben Affleck is set to direct and star in the upcoming Netflix thriller "Animals". Affleck was in talks to direct since last year, but Matt Damon was originally set to star in the lead role. After a holdup with the rights delayed the start of production, Affleck had to move on to "The Accountant" sequel. Affleck was still interested in directing "Animals", but with Damon now shooting Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey", he decided to take on the starring role himself.

The script is penned by Connor McIntyre and Billy Ray ("Captain Phillips", "The Hunger Games"). Plot details are being kept under wraps except for the fact that it revolves around a kidnapping. Gillian Anderson ("The X-Files", "Sex Education") is also on aboard to star. Filming is expected to begin in Los Angeles.

Affleck, Damon and Dani Bernfeld will produce through their Artists Equity banner, the artist-led studio founded by Affleck, Damon and Gerry Cardinale. Brad Weston and Collin Creighton are also producing for Makeready, which developed the project in partnership with Fifth Season. Artists Equity’s Michael Joe, Kevin Halloran and Lucy Damon will serve as executive producers alongside Fifth Season.

Affleck will star alongside Damon in the Netflix and Artists Equity crime thriller "RIP", which will release later this year.
