Weekend Box Office: MUFASA Dominates First Frame Of 2025 With SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3 Close Behind

Disney's animated prequel "Mufasa: The Lion King" conquered the first box office weekend of 2025, while "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" is still hot on its heels in second place. With no other new releases, the Top 10 features the same movies, with very few changes.

"Mufasa: The Lion King" climbed to the top spot after finishing in second place last weekend. The film grossed another $23.4 million in its third weekend, a 36.3% decline. The domestic total has reached $168.2 million, while overseas it raked in another $307.9 million for a global total of $476.1 million.

The weekend domination of "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" has ended, the sequel finishing in second place with $21.3 million, down 42.3% from the previous frame. The threequel is still ahead of "Mufasa" domestically with $187.6 million, while the overseas cume is weaker at $148.8 million. The film's worldwide total now sits at $336.4 million after three weeks.

Robert Eggers' horror remake "Nosferatu" is holding in third place with $13 million, a 39.5% drop from last weekend. The film has now grossed a total of $69.2 million in North America and $31 million overseas, which adds up to a global total of $100.3 million.

The sequel "Moana 2" climbed from #5 to #4 and grossed $12.4 million over the weekend, dropping just 34.1%. The Disney movie has now grossed a total of $425.2 million domestically and another $535.7 million overseas. The worldwide cume has reached $960.9 million.

The top 5 is rounded out by "Wicked" with $9.9 million, down 49.5% from the previous frame. The musical has now grossed $450.5 million in North America and $230 million from foreign markets. That's a total of $680.5 million worldwide.

In other news, Nicole Kidman's erotic thriller "Babygirl" managed to hold in seventh place with $4.4 million, exactly the same amount it grossed last weekend, which is actually a solid performance for the R-rated movie. The film has now grossed a total of $16.1 million.
