The Season 5 finale of "Yellowstone" has come and gone, but this is not the end for the Dutton clan. Series alums Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser have already signed on to to lead a new spinoff series, reprising their roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler.
It was previously reported in August that "Yellowstone" producers MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios had been negotiating with Reilly and Hauser for months. The new show hails from franchise mastermind Taylor Sheridan, will be set in the same present-day time frame and will likely feature other cast members from the mothership series, which is why unlike the series' prequels "1883", "1923", and "1944", this will be the first spinoff to carry Yellowstone in the title.
The decision to make the new series a spinoff rather than an extension of the flagship show may be, in part, due to a streaming deal for "Yellowstone" that was made before Paramount+. The original series is only available on Peacock, but a new show would potentially allow Paramount to capture the streaming rights for the new spinoff.
"Yellowstone" was co-created by Sheridan and John Linson who executive produce with Art Linson, Kevin Costner, David C. Glasser, Bob Yari, Stephen Kay, Michael Friedman, Christina Voros and Keith Cox. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
The franchise's first contemporary spinoff, "The Madison", starring Michelle Pfeiffer, will be released in 2025.
