Weekend Box Office Venom 3 Heretic Best Christmas Pageant Ever

"Venom: The Last Dance" topped the box-office charts for a third time over Veteran's Day weekend while newcomers "Heretic" and "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" posted modest debuts. The two new releases beat the superhero flick on Friday, but the threequel bounced back over the next two days and conquered its third weekend in theaters.

"Venom: The Last Dance" is the #1 movie of the weekend with $15.9 million, down 38.6% from the previous frame. The film has now grossed $114.4 million domestically and $279.4 million internationally, which brings its worldwide cume to $393.8 million against a $120 million production budget.

The horror thriller "Heretic" opened in second place with $11 million from 3,221 theaters, which is the best performance for a Hugh Grant movie since the rom-com "Music and Lyrics" opened with $13.6 million in 2007. "Heretic" cost less than $10 million to produce. While the film received a very positive reception from critics (92% on Rotten Tomatoes), the audience reception was divisive to say the least ("C+").

The faith-based holiday comedy "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" opened with a modest $10.7 million from 3,000 theaters. As part of an incentivized screening program, the film was shown in theaters for one night earlier this week where it earned $2.2 million, which was added to the film's total weekend earnings. Like "Heretic", this one also had a $10 million budget. Both the critical and audience reception were positive (90% on Rotten Tomatoes and an "A" CinemaScore).

"The Wild Robot" is still going strong, finishing in fourth place with $6.6 million, a very solid 11.2% decline from the previous weekend. After 7 weeks in theaters, the film earned $130.8 million in North America, $161.3 million from foreign markets, and a total of $292.2 million worldwide.

The Top 5 is rounded out by the horror sequel "Smile 2" with $5.1 million, down 24.4%. The new installment is seriously lagging behind its predecessor, only grossing $60.6 million domestically and $63 million overseas, so far, while the first film finished its theatrical run with $105.9 million domestically and $111.4 million overseas.
