The 21st season of the police procedural drama series "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" has premiered on Octobver 24, 2019 on NBC. With this new season, the show has become the longest-running live action TV series, surpassing the episode count of previous record holders: "Gunsmoke" and the original "Law & Order" series.

Created by Dick Wolf, the show follows the Special Victims Unit, a specially trained squad of detectives in the NYPD who investigate sexually related crimes. The cast features Mariska Hargitay, Kelli Giddish, Ice-T and Peter Scanavino. Guest stars this season include Peter Gallagher, Ian McShane and Ariel Winter.
