"The Cry" is a four-part miniseries directed by Glendyn Ivin ("Safe Harbour") and written by Jacquelin Perske ("Spirited") based on the novel of the same name by Helen FitzGerald.

The series centers on the abduction of a baby from a small coastal town in Australia, an event that becomes the catalyst for a journey into the disintegrating psychology of a young schoolteacher (Jenna Coleman) as she and her fiancé (Ewen Leslie) deal with an unthinkable tragedy under both the white light of public scrutiny and in their private lives. Asher Keddie, Stella Gonet, Sophie Kennedy, Markella Kavenagh and Alex Dimitriades co-star.

"The Cry" premiered on BBC One on September 30, 2018 in the U.K., and in the U.S. on October 23, 2019 on Sundance.

"Young couple Joanna and Alistair travel with their baby from Scotland to Australia to see Alistair’s mother, Elizabeth and to fight for custody of Alistair’s daughter Chloe against his Australian ex-wife Alexandra.

However, when their baby disappears, it triggers Joanna’s psychological breakdown and in the glare of global media speculation and judgement, the experience changes her marriage forever."
