"Back Roads" is a drama directed by and starring Alex Pettyfer ("I Am Number Four") based on the novel of the same name written by Tawni O'Dell, who also penned the film's script.

The film tells the story of a young man (Pettyfer) stuck in the Pennsylvania backwoods caring for his three younger sisters after the shooting death of his abusive father and the arrest of his mother (Juliette Lewis). Angered and traumatized by his painful past, he finally begins to feel hope when he connects with an older, married woman (Jennifer Morrison), and they embark on an affair, but shocking family secrets and unspoken truths threaten to consume him. Nicola Peltz, Chiara Aurelia, Hala Finley, Robert Patrick and June Carry co-star.

"Back Roads" premiered at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival and opened in select theaters on December 7, 2018. The film has received generally positive reviews from critics.

"After his mother (a gritty Juliette Lewis) goes to jail for shooting and killing his abusive father, Harley Altmyer (Alex Pettyfer) is left to care for his three younger sisters in a rural Pennsylvania town. The uneducated Harley works two dead-end jobs to preserve what's left of his family, including the rebellious, sexual 16-year-old Amber (Nicola Peltz). Angered and traumatized by his painful past, Harley finally begins to feel hope when he connects with an older, married woman (Jennifer Morrison), and they embark on an affair. When shocking family secrets emerge, Harley's life begins to spiral downward, leading to a devastating conclusion that impacts the entire community."
