Writer Simon Kinberg ("X-Men: Days of Future Past") and director/writer Neill Blomkamp ("District 9") have joined forces with Ruairi Robinson ("The Last Days on Mars") to turn the sci-fi project "The Leviathan" into a full-length feature film. The script will be written by Jim Uhls ("Fight Club"). Kinberg and Blomkamp previously collaborated on "Chappie" and "Elysium", and the latter is currently working on "Alien 5".
This all started with a proof-of-concept trailer called "The Leviathan" which was released about a week ago. The video was a huge hit online, gathering close to 2 million views on YouTube and Vimeo. Taking place sometime in the 22nd century, when mankind has colonized alien worlds, space travel has become possible by harvesting exotic matter from the eggs of a gigantic species that is now hunted for these specific industrial purposes. Those who take part in the hunt are considered involuntary labor due to the hazardous nature of their work. It's an incredible proof-of-concept video with impeccable production values, and you can watch it below:
