The comics focus on a Texas preacher who is accidentally possessed by a supernatural creature named Genesis, the offspring of an angel and a demon. The possession gives the preacher the ability to control other people. He then begins a journey across the United States attempting to find God, who abandoned Heaven the moment Genesis was born.
Ruth Negga, who is the first actor cast in the pilot, will star as Tulip, the preacher's ex-girlfriend who joins him on his quest. Here's how she is described:

Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy, the three embark on a journey to literally find God."
