After it was announced that the "Star Wars" spinoff will be titled "Rogue One" and will star Felicity Jones, we now have another update on the project. Academy Award winner Alexandre Desplat will score Gareth Edwards' film. The French film composer delivered the news himself on the Radio Classique’s Culture Club podcast.
Desplat also scored Edwards' "Godzilla" remake and won his first Oscar last month for his work on "The Grand Budapest Hotel".
J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars Episode VII" will be scored by franchise veteran John Williams, and it's possible that the main trilogy will continue to be scored by Williams, but the decision to get Desplat for the spinoff is probably related to the difficulty of handling the tight schedule since Disney seems determined to release a "Star Wars" movie per year.
"Star Wars: Rogue One" will open in theaters on December 16, 2016.
