divergent-shailene-woodley-theo-james-image

The young-adult adventure film "Divergent" scored an impressive $56 million opening weekend, the second-best opening of the year, behind "The LEGO Movie" ($69 million). "Muppets Most Wanted" arrived in second place with a weak $16.5 million, a step down from the original's $29 million opening weekend in 2011, but still one of the stronger first days of a Muppets movie. One of the biggest surprises is the faith-themed film "God's Not Dead" which opened fifth with $8.6 million from just 780 screens, essentially a limited release.

More box-office details and the complete top 10, after the jump.

New Wide Releases: "Divergent", "Muppets Most Wanted".

Biggest Drop : "Tyler Perry's The Single Moms Club" (-61%)

Smallest Drop : "Non-Stop" (-40%)
