Written and directed by Gus Van Sant ("Good Will Hunting"), the dramedy "Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot" tells the story of Portland cartoonist John Callahan, who was renowned for his controversial cartoons, often dealing with macabre subjects and physical disabilities, that led to boycotts and protests against the newspaper Willamette Week, where his work was published for 27 years. The film chronicles Callahan's rocky path to sobriety after a life-changing accident, and his discovery of the healing power of art.

The film stars Joaquin Phoenix, Jonah Hill, Rooney Mara, Jack Black, Udo Kier, Beth Ditto, Mireille Enos, Emilio Rivera, Tony Greenhand and Mark Webber.

"Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot" premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, followed by a limited release in theaters on July 13, 2018, by Amazon Studios. The film received mostly positive reviews from critics, and was nominated for the Golden Berlin Bear at the 2018 Berlin International Festival.

SYNOPSIS

JUMP BACK TO TOP

"John Callahan has a lust for life, a talent for off-color jokes, and a drinking problem. When an all-night bender ends in a catastrophic car accident, the last thing he intends to do is give up drinking. But when he reluctantly enters treatment -with encouragement from his girlfriend (Rooney Mara) and a charismatic sponsor (Jonah Hill) -Callahan discovers a gift for drawing edgy, irreverent newspaper cartoons that develop an international following and grant him a new lease on life. Based on a true story, this poignant, insightful and often funny drama about the healing power of art is adapted from Callahan's autobiography and directed by two-time Oscar (R) nominee Gus Van Sant. Jack Black, Carrie Brownstein, Beth Ditto and Kim Gordon also star."
