Weekend Box-Office: ALLEGIANT Makes Disappointing Debut

"Zootopia" still has no rival at the box-office as "The Divergent Series: Allegiant" underperformed in its opening weekend. Meanwhile, Christian drama "Miracles from Heaven" made a solid debut.

Find out more about the weekend box office after the jump.

Disney's animated hit "Zootopia" maintains its top position with a $38 million weekend which helped it cross the $200 million mark. The film's worldwide cume now stands at an impressive $591.7 million.

Bad news for "The Divergent Series". Although it managed a second place debut with $29 million, "Allegiant" grossed almost half as much as its predecessors did in their opening weekends. "Divergent" scored $54.6 million in 2014 and "Insurgent" opened with $52 million last year. Reviews for the third installment in the franchise have been equally catastrophic. That spells trouble for the series' final installment, "Ascendant" which is set to open in June, 2017. Lionsgate can still hope for some success in international markets, since previous entries have proven to be quite viable overseas.

In third place we have another new arrival, the faith-based drama "Miracles from Heaven" starring Jennifer Garner. The film grossed $15 million over the weekend and $18 million in the first five days since its release. With a production budget estimated at $13 million and pretty good prospects, the film could easily double that amount.

Last week's #2 new entry, "10 Cloverfield Lane" landed at #4 with $12.5 million, bringing its domestic total to a neat $45 million versus a $15 million budget.

"Deadpool" rounds up the Top 5 with an $8 million weekend gross which brings its domestic cume at $340.9 million, which makes it the eighth highest grossing superhero film of all time, passing "Guardians of the Galaxy" ($333.1 million), "Spider-Man 3" ($336.5 million) and the first two "Iron Man" films ($318.4 and $312.4 million).

New Wide Releases: "The Divergent Series: Allegiant, "Miracles From Heaven, "The Bronze".
