While "Inside Out" looked like it could overthrow "Jurassic World" this weekend, ultimately the dino epic had the last word. It also helped that this week's new wide releases under-performed.
Find out more about the weekend box office after the jump.
"Jurassic World" earned $54.2 million this weekend and it's still the No. 1 movie at the box-office after 17 days, reaching a domestic total of $500 million. It's also the fastest ascent to $500 million in cinematic history, beating the record previously held by "The Avenger" which hit the milestone after 23 days. Combined with the $584 million grossed internationally, the film has now earned $1.24 billion worldwide.
"Inside Out" placed second with $52 million and is on its way to hitting the $200 million mark in the next few days. It has now grossed $184.9 million domestically and an additional $81 million overseas. The film hasn't yet opened in major international markest such as Germany, Spain, U.K., Korea and Japan.
Seth MacFarlane's comedy sequel "Ted 2" performed much worse than everyone expected, grossing only $33 million in the U.S., which looks even worse when compared to the first film's $54 million debut. Even so, it's an improvement from MacFarlane's "A Million Ways to Die in the West" which grossed $16.8 million last year in its first three days. "Ted 2" cost $68 million to produce.
The other wide release of the week that didn't make much of an impression is the family film "Max". The film placed fourth with $12 million, but its budget is estimated at only $20 million, so it's not all that bad.
New Wide Releases: "Ted 2", "Max".
Biggest Drop : "Dope" (-53%)
Smallest Drop : "Spy" (-30%)
