Director Roland Emmerich has announced via Twitter that Maika Monroe ("It Follows", "The Guest") is the latest addition to the cast of his sci-fi sequel "Independence Day 2". She will star as Patricia Whitmore, the daughter of President Thomas J. Whitmore (Bill Pullman) and the love interest of Liam Hemsworth's character.
The film is expected to start filming next month. The cast also includes Jeff Goldblum, Jessie Usher, Travis Tope, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Joey King, Brent Spiner and Judd Hirsch. The script has been written by Carter Blanchard and the most recent draft was handled by James A. Woods and Nicolas Wright.
"Independence Day 2" opens in theaters on June 24, 2016.
