After announcing that he won't be returning for
"Iron Man 4" and that Marvel has some secret plans for him,
Robert Downey Jr. is now close to signing a deal to star in
"Captain America 3" alongside
Chris Evans. The sequel will adapt the
"Civil War" series written by
Mark Millar in which a legislative bill called the Superhuman Registration Act requires the mandatory registration of any person based in the United States with super powers. The existence of this law divides the superhero community. Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, leads the pro-registration team, while Captain America leads the anti-registration group, which means that Downey will essentially be playing a villain this time. This will most likely open up a whole new line of stories for the Marvel films and it will be interesting to see what happens to Stark and whether or not this will be part of Downey's exit from the franchise.
"Captain America 3" will be directed by The Winter Soldier helmers
Anthony and Joe Russo from a script by
Christopher Markus and
Stephen McFeely, and it will be released on May 6, 2016.
