GHOSTBUSTERS 3 Writer and Director Confirmed

Katie Dippold
Paul Feig
It's been a long time since anything new happened with "Ghostbusters 3", but we finally have proof of life. The sequel has been in doubt for many years, with Dan Aykroyd struggling to push it forward, while Bill Murray repeatedly refused to return to the franchise. When Harold Ramis passed away in February, all plans for the original cast to return were dropped and eventually original director Ivan Reitman quit the project in March.

With so many setbacks and twists, when Paul Feig ("Bridesmaids", "The Heat") came on board to direct a reinvented versions of the Ghostbusters in August, I really didn't think it would move forward. But now it seems that the project is indeed being revived by "The Heat" writer Katie Dippold who has just been confirmed as the reboot's new writer. It seems that "Ghostbusters 3" will feature a female team and will be the first of a different series instead of being connected to previous installments. So I guess the final title won't be "Ghostbusters 3", because it doesn't really sound like a sequel.

Paul Feig himself offered the confirmation via Twitter:
"It's official. I'm making a new Ghostbusters & writing it with @katiedippold & yes, it will star hilarious women. That's who I'm gonna call."
No word on when production is expected to begin, or whether this will be Feig's next movie, but stay tuned for more updates.
