Fans of the TV series "24" were eagerly awaiting a big screen follow-up for the show, but three years after the show's finale, FOX seemed indecisive about moving forward with the movie. Then, in May 2013, they announced that Jack Bauer will return, but in the form of a 12-episode limited TV series. Which is still great and certainly better than nothing. Kiefer Sutherland was immediately brought back to play Bauer and he will be joined by other series veterans, including Mary Lynn Rajskub as Chloe O'Brian, Kim Raver as Audrey Raines and William Devane as James Heller. Now, we have a bunch of new cast updates and a premiere date. Read more after the jump.
FOX offered some new updates for the production. First of all, they announced the series' premiere date. "24: Live Another Day" will debut on Monday, May 5th with a two-hour premiere at 8pm. The rest of the episodes will air every Monday at 9pm. It was also announced that the cast will include Yvonne Strahovski ("Dexter", "Chuck") and Benjamin Bratt ("Miss Congeniality"). They will be joined by Giles Matthey ("Jobs"), Gbenga Akinnagbe ("The Wire"), Michael Wincott ("The Crow") and Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe Award winner Judy Davis ("Husbands and Wives").
Sutherland, Rajskub and the series' executive producers were present at the Television Critics Association winter press tour and they spoke about where the series is headed and it seems that the prospect of a reboot is still on the table: "If this ends up rebooting the show or causing a film to be made, so be it, but we're very happy about these 12 episodes right now." Furthermore, Sutherland has confirmed that the limited series' story will not be the same as that of the previously planned feature film.
Regarding the original series' real-time storytelling, the filmmakers have said that the story will still take place over a 24-hour day, even though it will only have 12 episodes and that certain hours of the day will simply not be shown onscreen. So it will be compressed real-time. The plot will take place in London, four years after the events of the final season, and Jack Bauer, now an exile and a fugitive from justice, will once again be working hard to thwart an unthinkable terrorist attack that could change the world forever. Hot on Bauer's trail are a resourceful and driven CIA agent, played by Yvonne Strahovski and her boss, played by Benjamin Bratt. Bauer will also cross paths with Chloe O'Brian, who, according to Rajskub, is now "somewhere we've never seen her before. She's in a bad, bad spot … I've gone anti-government and when Jack and I are finally reunited, we're not seeing eye-to-eye and he's being hunted by a CIA agent."
