THOR 2 (2013) Production Update

It hasn't been easy to get "Thor 2" back on track since Kenneth Branagh decided not to return in the director's chair. After considering several candidates, "Monster" director Patty Jenkins was attached to the project, but in a surprising turn of events she dropped out because of "creative differences". Now the studio has turned to TV director Alan Taylor, whose impressive resume includes episodes for "Mad Men" (pilot episode, Emmy nomination), "Game of Thrones", "Boardwalk Empire", "The Sopranos" (which earned him the Emmy award for Outstanding Directing, episode "Kennedy And Heidi") and Sex and the City". This decision seems to underline Marvel's desire to go for directors with experience in strong dramatic works, which is what made the first movie so good in the first place under Branagh's direction.

In recent developements it has been announced that the script's rewrite will be handled by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Robert Rodat ("Saving Private Ryan", "The Patriot"). The original script was penned by Don Payne ("Thor", "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer"). And, production is scheduled to start this summer, probably as soon as "The Avengers" gets released, according to Tom Hiddleston, who plays the villain Loki. Also, Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman will reprise their roles. So, if no delays occur, Marvel should be ready for the November 15, 2013 release.
