Writers Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller were just hired to write the sequel to Tony Scott's 1986 box-office hit "Top Gun". Initially, a script for a sequel was being cooked up shortly after the first film was released, but was dropped eventually and was never heard of again. Stentz and Miller are currently on a roll in Hollywood, after writing the scripts for Marvel's "Thor" and "X-Men: First Class", two very successful and well received comic book adaptations. Before that, they worked on episodes of the TV series "Fringe", "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" and "Andromeda". Tony Scott will return to direct the sequel, but it is unkown at this time if Tom Cruise will reprise his role as Maverick, or they'll write in a new protagonist. I just hope they can call back Harold Faltermeyer to write the music, because as I recall, his score and Giorgio Moroder's song "Take My Breath Away" were two of the best things about the 1986 actioner. Next year, "Top Gun" is returning to theaters, in full 3D conversion.
