The military thriller "One Shot" starring Tom Cruise as an ex-military investigator uncovering an intricate conspiracy behind five murders pinned on a trained military sniper, has found the right man to play its villain. Werner Herzog, the acclaimed german writer/director, will play The Zec, an "ex-prisoner of war who arranges and stages the killing and is the head of the conspiracy" (Variety). Herzog is well known for classic art-house films like "Aguire, Wrath of God", "Fitzcarraldo" and the 1979 "Nosferatu", among others, as well as for some of his recent US work : "Rescue Dawn", "The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans", or "My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done". When it comes to acting he's had some small parts in various movies and a memorable facial appearance in "What Dreams May Come", but I suppose nothing as mainstream, or as substantial as this. Still, I have a feeling that The Zec might just turn out to be a very interesting character in Herzog's hands. "One Shot" also stars Rosamund Pike, David Oyelowo, Richard Jenkins, and Robert Duvall. Written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie ("Valkyrie"), based on a novel by Lee Child, the film will be released on February 8, 2013.
