"The Last Thing He Wanted" is a political thriller directed by Dee Rees ("Mudbound") from a script co-written by Rees and Marco Villalobos based on the novel of the same name by Joan Didion.

Anne Hathaway stars as a veteran D.C. journalist who loses the thread of her own narrative when a guilt-propelled errand for her father thrusts her from byline to unwitting subject in the very story she's trying to break. Ben Affleck, Rosie Perez, Willem Dafoe and Toby Jones co-star.

"The Last Thing He Wanted" premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and it was released on February 21, 2020 by Netflix.
