"His Dark Materials" is a new fantasy series based on the novel series of the same name by Philip Pullman. The show is written by Jack Thorne ("Shameless", "Skins") and directd by Otto Bathurst ("Peaky Blinders").

The story is set in an alternative world where all humans have animal companions called dæmons, which are the manifestation of the human soul. Dafne Keen stars as Lyra, a young orphan living with the scholars at Jordan College, Oxford, who embarks on an adventure to find her missing friend and uncovers dangerous secrets that involve Lord Asriel (James McAvoy) and Marisa Coulter (Ruth Wilson). The cast also includes Anne-Marie Duff, Clarke Peters, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Ruda Gedmintas.

"His Dark Materials" is a co-production between HBO and the BBC, and it premiered on November 3 on BBC One in the U.K., and on November 4 on HBO in the U.S. and internationally. The series has already been renewed for a second season.

Her search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children, and becomes a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. As she journeys through the worlds, including our own, Lyra meets Will, a determined and courageous boy. Together, they encounter extraordinary beings and dangerous secrets, with the fate of both the living — and the dead — in their hands."
