"Joker" is a psychological thriller directed by Todd Phillips ("The Hangover") from a script he co-wrote alongside Scott Silver ("The Fighter").

The film is an origin story and a character study for the titular DC Comics supervillain, who in this movie starts out as Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a man struggling to find his way in Gotham's fractured society, caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty. Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy and Brett Cullen co-star.

"Joker" premiered at the 76th Venice International Film Festival where it won the Golden Lion, the festival's highest prize, as well as the Fanheart3 Award and the Soundtrack Stars Award. The film opened in theaters on October 4, 2019.
