"Leto" is a Russian musical biopic directed by Kirill Serebrennikov ("The Student") from a script written by Serebrennikov, Mikhail Idov, Lili Idova and Ivan Kapitonov, based on Natalya Naumenko's memoirs.

The film is set in the early 1980s, a time when Russian rock was just taking flight, and it focuses on a love triangle that emerges around a rock and roll musician, his protege and his wife. The film also chronicles the rise of the historic Leningrad music venue Leningrad Rock Club, and the recording of Soviet rock band Kino's debut album "45".

The film stars Teo Yoo, Roman Bilyk, Irina Starshenbaum, Philip Avdeev, Alexander Gorchilin and Julia Aug.

"Leto" premiered at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival where it participated in the competition and won the Soundtrack Award. It was also nominated for the Palme d'Or. The film received a limited release in theaters in the U.S. on June 7, 2019.

" Avant-garde Russian filmmaker Kirill Serebrennikov (The Student) returns to the big-screen with a tribute to the early years of Russian rock. Leningrad, in the summer, early eighties. Smuggling LP's by Lou Reed and David Bowie, the underground rock scene is boiling ahead of the Perestroika. Mike and his beautiful wife Natasha meet with young Viktor Tsoï. Together with friends, they will change the trajectory of rock n'roll music in the Soviet Union. "
