"Mortal Engines" is a post-apocalyptic adventure film directed by Christian Rivers, who won an Oscar for his visual effects work on "King Kong" and is making his directorial debut, from a script by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens and Peter Jackson, based on the novel of the same name written by Philip Reeve.

The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world where cities have been motorised, travel on wheels and consume each other to survive. A mysterious young woman, Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar) joins forces with outcasts Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan) and Anna Fang (Jihae) to stop London, which has become a giant predator city, from devouring everything in its path. Hugo Weaving, Leila George, Ronan Raftery and Stephen Lang co-star.

"Mortal Engines" opened in theaters on December 6, 2018 in Australia and New Zealand, and on December 14, 2018 in the U.S. The film has received mixed reviews from critics.

"Hundreds of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, a mysterious young woman, Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar), emerges as the only one who can stop London -- now a giant, predator city on wheels -- from devouring everything in its path. Feral, and fiercely driven by the memory of her mother, Hester joins forces with Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan), an outcast from London, along with Anna Fang (Jihae), a dangerous outlaw with a bounty on her head."
