"The Bookshop" is a period drama based on the novel of the same name written by Penelope Fitzgerald.

Set in a small town in 1959 England, the film tells the story of a woman (Emily Mortimer) who decides, against polite but ruthless local opposition, to open a bookshop, a decision which becomes a political minefield. Written and directed by Isabel Coixet ("The Secret Life of Words"), the film also stars Bill Nighy, Patricia Clarkson, Hunter Tremayne and James Lance.

"The Bookshop" received a limited release in theaters on August 24, 2018 and received mixed reviews from critics.

"England, 1959. Free-spirited widow Florence Green (Emily Mortimer) risks everything to open a bookshop in a conservative East Anglian coastal town.
