Ever wondered what an R-rated Muppets movie would look like ? Yeah, me neither, but here it is. "The Happytime Murders" is a dark comedy set in the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles where puppets and humans coexist. When the puppet cast of an '80s children's TV show are murdered one by one, two detectives, a human (Melissa McCarthy) and a puppet (Bill Barretta) take on the case.

Directed by Brian Henson ("Muppet Treasure Island"), the film also stars Elizabeth Banks, Maya Rudolph, Leslie David Baker, Joel McHale and Cynthy Wu .

"The Happytime Murders" opened in theaters on August 24, 2018 and received mostly negative reviews from critics. The film is expected to gross around $10-13 million in its opening weekend. It has grossed $950,000 from Thursday night previews in 2,500 theaters.
