It's a tight box-office race, but it seems that the new R-rated comedy "The Boss" managed to dethrone "Batman V Superman" this week, based on the estimates, so far. The other wide release of the week, the experimental actioner "Hardcore Henry" proved to be a disappointment.
Find out more about the weekend box office after the jump.
You wouldn't have guessed it from what the critics and moviegoers are saying, but the Melissa McCarthy starrer "The Boss" is a decent box-office hit. Despite the serious negative reactions to the film, it managed to score a solid $23.48 million debut versus a $29 million budget, placing first in the Top 10 and topping "Batman V Superman" which is very close behind with $23.43 million. McCarthy proved once again that her name on the credits brings a lot of weight to a film's box-office prospects. Which is good news for Sony and their upcoming "Ghostbusters" reboot.
The other wide release of the week, the First-Person action flick "Hardcore Henry" finished fifth with a weak $5 million from 3,015 theaters. The film cost $10 million to produce, which is should earn back soon, but it wasn't quite the hit everyone expected it to be, although the film's experimental nature warrants at least some caution when making predictions.
New Wide Releases: "The Boss", "Hardcore Henry".
Biggest Drop : "Batnan V Superman: Dawn of Justice" (-54%)
Smallest Drop : "Zootopia" (-25%)
