While "Batman V Superman" is still the undisputed champion at the weekend box-office, the superhero flick suffered a severe drop from last week's almost-record-breaking debut. Meanwhile, new arrivals "God's Not Dead 2" and "Meet the Blacks" finished with mixed results.
Find out more about the weekend box office after the jump.
"Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" dropped almost 70% from last weekend's spectacular $166 million to an okay $52.3 million in this week's three-day timeframe. This ranks as the fifth largest drop of all-time for a film with a debut of over $100 million. The decline is similar to that of last year's "Fantastic Four" movie, and we all now what that was all about. "Batman V Superman" also received some bad scores from both critics and audiences and it seems it affected its domestic box-office performance. Worldwide, the film scored $682 million, which is already better than what "Man of Steel" made in its entire theatrical run.
"Zootopia" continues its strong performance this week at #2 with a minor 16% drop from last week. The film has added another $20 million to its domestic gross and has now reached $787 million worldwide. At #3, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2" is also doing well, with an okay $11.1 million this weekend. The comedy has grossed $36.4 million in the U.S.
The new release "God's Not Dead 2", made a pretty slow debut at #4 with $8.1 million, well below expectations and a step down from the first film's $9.2 million opening weekend from only 780 theaters, compared to the sequel's 1,639 theaters.
The weekend's other new wide release, the R-rated spoof "Meet the Blacks" opened in eighth place with $4 million from 1,015 theaters.
New Wide Releases: "God's Not Dead 2", "Meet the Blacks".
Biggest Drop : "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" (-68.4%)
Smallest Drop : "Zootopia" (-16%)
