Universal has once again taken over the box-office with the hip-hop biopic "Straight Outta Compton", while the week's other wide release "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." under-performed.

Find out more about the weekend box office after the jump.

"Straight Outta Compton" is the fourth major hit for Universal in 2015 with a $56 million debut which ranks sixth as the best August opening of all time, ahead of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" which opened with $54 million in 2011. The film also helped Universal surpass the $2 billion mark this year in only 8 months, breaking the record previously held by Warner Bros in 2009 which reached that same milestone in 12 months.

The action comedy "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." proved to be disappointment with a weak $13.5 million debut in third place. The Guy Ritchie directed project had a reported budget of $75 million which it will probably recover eventually, but it simply won't be as profitable as everyone hoped. The film was surpassed by competing spy actioner "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" which proved to be quite resilient in second place with $17 million over the weekend and a worldwide total of $373 million.

"Fantastic Four" continues to struggle at the box-office. The film grossed $8 million over the weekend and dropped a shocking 68.9% from an already weak debut. The domestic total has reached $41 million, with an extra $60 million grossed overseas versus a $120 million budget. Although the figures probably don't justify a sequel, 20th Century Fox is saying that they are committed to these characters, which could mean that even though this first attempt failed completely both critically and at the box-office, the studio could consider bringing the cast back for another try under a new director.

Joel Edgerton's directorial endeavour "The Gift" rounds up the Top 5 with a solid $6.5 million bringing the domestic total to $23.5 million versus a $5 million production budget.
