Eddie Redmayne Joins HARRY POTTER Spinoff

Eddie Redmayne
There have been rumors floating around for months regarding Eddie Redmayne's possible casting in the "Harry Potter" spinoff "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", but now it's finally official. Warner Bros. has announced that Oscar winner Redmayne has joined the film as Newt Scamander, the Wizarding World’s preeminent magizoologist, who in his travels has encountered and documented a myriad of magical creatures, ultimately leading to his penning the Hogwarts School textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The film will be directed by David Yates ("Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows") and the script will be written by J.K. Rowling herself, making this her screenwriting debut. There are also rumors regarding other roles in the film. Saoirse Ronan, Dakota Fanning, Lili Simmons and Alison Sudol are in the running for the role of Tina, Katherine Waterston, Elizabeth Debicki and Kate Upton are being considered for Tina's sister Queenie, and Steve Zissis, Zack Pearlman, or Dan Fogler could be cast as Newt’s rival Jacob.

Here's what Greg Silverman, President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production, Warner Bros. Pictures had to say about Redmayne's casting:
"Eddie Redmayne has emerged as one of today’s most extraordinarily talented and acclaimed actors. We are thrilled to welcome him into J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, where we know he will deliver a remarkable performance as Newt Scamander, the central character in ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."
"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" opens in theaters on November 18, 2016.
