CASTING NEWS: Cobie Smulders, Dwayne Johnson, Julianne Moore, Kristen Stewart and More

cobie smulders
Today it has been confirmed that Cobie Smulders ("The Avengers") will return to play S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill in "The Avengers: Age of Ultron". This was revealed (sort of) in an interview for the Calgary Herald. Here's what Smudlers said:

"I think I’m in Avengers 2, but it is very top secret. I hope I’m in Avengers 2. I didn’t get my invitation yet. Well, actually, they know I’m in it but they don’t know to what degree I’m in it…I am really excited to read the script because they are introducing Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch into the Avengers universe and the bad guy [Ultron] is going to be very interesting".

dwayne johnson
Dwayne Johnson ("Fast & Furious 6") is attached to star in a supernatural actioner titled "Seal Team 666". Catchy title, right ? The film has been written by Evan Spiliotopoulos ("Hercules: The Thracian Wars") and it's based on Weston Ochse's novel of the same name. The story "follows an elite group of Navy Seals who battle demons and assorted threats and discover that there’s a greater supernatural force bent on destroying the world."

For more details, here is the book's synopsis:
"Weston Ochse’s SEAL Team 666 follows Cadet Jack Walker. Halfway through SEAL training, he’s still green but showing incredible promise when he’s whisked away to join four SEALs—and their dog—for a special ops mission. Walker soon finds himself in a whirlwind of otherworldly creatures and events as he finds out the true nature of this “special ops” team: SEAL Team 666. Battling demons, possessed humans, mass-murdering cults, and evil in its most dark and primeval form, SEAL Team 666 has their work cut out for them. And it’s not long before they realize that the threat isn’t just directed against the U.S.—an ancient and deadly cult has bigger plans, and Walker is at the center of a supernatural conflict with the entire world at stake."

julianne moore
Julianne Moore will star in the Alzheimer drama "Still Alice". The film is based on a novel written by Harvard neuroscientist Lisa Genova. Moore will star as a 50-year-old cognitive psychologist who is diagnosed with an early onset of Alzheimer’s disease. The film will be directed by Richard Glatzer & Wash Westmoreland ("The Last of Robin Hood"), and production is set to begin in February in New York. Here is the book's synopsis:
"Alice Howland, happily married with three grown children and a house on the Cape, is a celebrated Harvard professor at the height of her career when she notices a forgetfulness creeping into her life. As confusion starts to cloud her thinking and her memory begins to fail her, she receives a devastating diagnosis: early onset Alzheimer’s disease. Fiercely independent, Alice struggles to maintain her lifestyle and live in the moment, even as her sense of self is being stripped away. In turns heartbreaking, inspiring and terrifying, Still Alice captures in remarkable detail what’s it’s like to literally lose your mind… "

kristen stewart
Kristen Stewart will reteam with "Adventureland" co-star Jesse Eisenberg for the action comedy "American Ultra". The film will be directed by Nima Nourizadeh ("Project X") and the script has been written by Max Landis ("Chronicle"). Eisenberg will play "an unmotivated stoner named Mike, who lives with his girlfriend Phoebe (Stewart) in a small, sleepy town. One night, their lives take an unexpected turn when Mike's past comes back to haunt him, and he becomes the target of a government operation set to wipe him out."

samuel l jackson
Samuel L. Jackson has joined "1408" co-star John Cusack in another Stephen King adaptation titled "Cell". Jackson will star as Tom McCourt, "an engineer and former soldier who escapes from Boston along with Cusack’s character, Clay Riddell, after a mysterious cell phone-transmitted pulse spreads like a virus through the human population.". The film will be directed by Tod Williams ("Paranormal Activity 2") and production is scheduled to begin in January. The script has been written by King himself along with Adam Alleca ("The Last House on the Left").

bryce dallas howard
Bryce Dallas Howard has been officially confirmed for "Jurassic World". About a month ago it was reported that she is in talks for the lead role and it seems that negotiations ended well for the actress. The sequel is directed by Colin Trevvorrow ("Safety Not Guaranteed") and the cast also includes Ty Simpkins ("Insidious"). Other unconfirmed cast members are Jake Johnson ("New Girl"), Nick Robinson ("Kings of Summer") and Josh Brolin ("Oldboy"). Also, Bleeding Cool reports that Jason Schwartzmann ("Moonrise Kingdom" will be joining the cast. But, again, nothing official. "Jurassic World" opens on June 12, 2015.
