Weekend Box-Office: RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET And Scores Second Largest Thanksgiving Opening Ever

The box-office estimates have arrived and it looks like this year's Thanksgiving weekend did not disappoint. Disney's "Ralph Breaks the Internet" and MGM's "Creed II" lead the pack with impressive numbers, while most releases from previous weeks continued to perform well. However, Summit's much maligned "Robin Hood" broke down completely in its opening weekend.

Find out more about the weekend box-office after the jump.

"Ralph Breaks the Internet" couldn't break any Thanksgiving records, but came very close to it. The animated sequel opened with $55.6 million over the 3-day weekend, and brought in a total of $84.4 million for the entire five-day time frame, which is the second largest Thanksgiving five-day opening of all-time. The original film opened with $49 million in 2012. Disney now holds eleven of the top thirteen Thanksgiving five-day debuts, of which the Top 3 belong to Walt Disney Animation Studios.

"Ralph" also scored $41.5 million overseas from 18 countries. China leads internationally with $19.5 million. The film received a generally positive reception from both critics (86% on Rotten Tomatoes and 71 on Metacritic) and moviegoers (68% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes and "A-" from CinemaScore).

Another sequel, the boxing drama "Creed II" opened in second place with $35.2 million over the weekend and an impressive $55.8 million five-day debut. This is the largest opening for a live-action film over the Thanksgiving weekend ever, and the seventh largest five-day opening overall. The first film opened with $29.6 million on November 25, 2015. "Creed 2" also received solid reviews from critics (82% on Rotten Tomatoes and 67 on Metacritic), and a very warm reception from audiences (89% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes and an "A" from CinemaScore).

In third place we find "Dr. Seuss' The Grinch" with $30.2 million after a very soft 21.7% drop. The animated film has brought in a total of $180.4 million domestically. Close behind at #4 is "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald" with $29.6 million after a heavier 52.3% drop, bringing its domestic tally to $117.1 million after 10 days in theaters. The five-day holiday time frame, however, looks a bit different for these two films, with "Beasts" finishing third with $42.9 million, while "Grinch" fell slightly behind with $42 million.

The Top 5 is rounded out by Fox's "Bohemian Rhapsody" with $13.8 million for the 3-day and $19.3 million for the 5-day.

The last of the new wide releases, the adventure epic "Robin Hood" opened in seventh place with an estimated $9.1 million over the weekend and $14.2 million for the holiday time frame. As the film reportedly cost $100 million to produce, this is easily one of this year's biggest flops. Overseas it's just as as bad, as the film brought in only $8.7 million from 33 countries. The film was universally panned by critics (11% on Rotten Tomatoes and 33 on Metacritic), and audiences seemed to agree more or less (52% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes and "B" on CinemaScore).
