The fifth and final season of the vampire series "The Originals" premieres tonight, April 18, 2018, on The CW at 9p.

Created by Julie Plec, the show is a spin-off of "The Vampire Diaries" and it stars Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, Candice King, Phoebe Tonkin, Jaime Murray, Claire Holt, Charles Michael Davis, Jedidiah Goodacre, Yusuf Gatewood, Danielle Campbell, Riley Voelkel, and Steven Krueger.

Plec announced last year that there is another spin-off in the works that will focus on the character Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell), the daughter of Klaus (Morgan) and Hayley (Tonkin). The pilot episode will begin filming in the second quarter of 2018, and will star "The Vampire Diaries" alum Matt Davis.

"On the fifth anniversary of the Mikaelson family’s greatest defeat. Although Marcel Gerrard has ushered in a new era of peace in the French Quarter, an army of unsired vampires has arrived seeking to bargain for the life of Marcel’s infamous captive, the Original hybrid, Klaus. Meanwhile, the other Mikaelson siblings remain trapped in an enchanted sleep, with Hayley working tirelessly to find the means to revive them – while also protecting her daughter, Hope."
